A guide to
Living Neighbourhood Living House
During my second year, I enrolled in Studio Gamma, which focused on investigating the connections between multiple dwellings and the urban landscape, as well as exploring cohabitation, density, and system integration in an urban context. The studio project centered around The MacArthur Place precinct in Carlton.

The House of Two Forces represents the balance between two different ways of living in a house. Convergence symbolizes the connection, community, and continuity that occurs when forces come together. Divergence, on the other hand, represents the separation, individuality, and space created when forces pull apart. Observing the site and considering the happiness of its occupants, I aim to design a house that enhances liveliness and happiness. Through conversations with people, I discovered that it is the people they live with that make them happy, rather than just the place itself. Further research on happiness revealed six stages identified by psychologists. Drawing from these concepts, my design concept of convergence and divergence utilizes buffers and gardens to connect people and provide separation when needed. The following pages illustrate the key ideas of the project, emphasizing site intensification and densification.
